Stronger Together, Ready for the Future
2026 Final-Quarter Address by Mr. Adewale Koko
Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer
Capital Express Indemnity Insurance Limited
Dear Colleagues,
As we enter the closing months of 2026, I am proud to reflect on a year that has tested our resolve, strengthened our institution and reminded us of the power of shared purpose. I thank every member of Capital Express Indemnity Insurance Limited for the professionalism, energy and commitment you have brought to our work. Our progress is not the achievement of one person or one department; it is the result of many hands moving in one direction, united by our responsibility to protect what matters most to our customers and communities.
This shared responsibility was clearly demonstrated during the 2026 Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria Insurance Awareness Walk. By joining colleagues across the industry to take the message of insurance into the public space, we affirmed that insurance is more than a policy document; it is a promise of recovery, continuity and confidence. It gives individuals, families and businesses the peace of mind to plan for tomorrow, knowing they have support when the unexpected occurs. The walk therefore challenged us to explain our value in language people understand and to extend meaningful protection to more Nigerians.
While the Awareness Walk strengthened our connection with the public, the 2026 CIIN Family Picnic reinforced the relationships within our industry community. It reminded us that institutions are sustained by people and that strong professional relationships are built on trust, camaraderie and a healthy sense of belonging. The connections we build beyond our desks improve the way we collaborate, solve problems and serve. In the same spirit, I want CEIIL to remain a workplace where people feel respected, supported and inspired to contribute their best.
That culture of support must also be felt by every customer we serve. During the 2026 Customer Service Week, themed “The Extra Mile,” we renewed our commitment to service that is responsive, thoughtful and dependable. Going the extra mile means listening carefully, communicating clearly, issuing policies accurately, assessing risks professionally and settling valid claims promptly. It means treating every interaction as an opportunity to earn trust and provide peace of mind. Customer service is not the duty of one unit; it is the responsibility of every person whose work shapes the customer’s experience.
Delivering that level of service requires an institution with the strength to keep its promises. Our successful recapitalisation is therefore another defining milestone. By exceeding the minimum capital requirement for non-life insurers and completing the applicable statutory deposit, CEIIL demonstrated disciplined execution, sound governance and the confidence of our shareholders. More importantly, this stronger capital base increases our capacity to underwrite larger and more complex risks, pursue strategic partnerships, invest in technology, improve operational efficiency and give policyholders greater peace of mind that we will stand firmly behind the protection we provide.
Having established this stronger foundation, we must now approach the second phase of NAICOM’s recapitalisation agenda with the same focus that brought us this far. Meeting the capital threshold was an essential first step; the next phase is to convert financial strength into sustainable performance. For us, that means prudent capital deployment, stronger enterprise risk management, disciplined underwriting, robust governance, continuous regulatory compliance and measurable value for customers and shareholders. Capital must not be idle—it must support resilience, innovation, responsible growth and prompt claims payment, ensuring that we can continue protecting what matters most.
With that responsibility in mind, our ambition for the future is clear. We will deepen our presence in key sectors of the economy, strengthen our capabilities in engineering, marine, motor, aviation, oil and gas and other specialist classes, and widen access to insurance through efficient digital channels and strategic distribution partnerships. We will use data and technology to make decisions faster and service simpler, while preserving the professional judgement and human attention that complex risks require. At the same time, we will develop our people, strengthen succession and build a culture in which innovation, accountability and customer advocacy are daily habits.
Ultimately, our future will be shaped by how well we turn today’s stronger balance sheet into tomorrow’s stronger institution. We must grow without compromising underwriting discipline, expand without weakening service quality and innovate without losing sight of trust. If we remain focused, CEIIL will not only compete more effectively; we will deepen insurance penetration, protect productive enterprise and give more people the peace of mind that comes from knowing what matters most is protected. In doing so, we will also contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s economic development.
